Description
Dapoxetine is an active component of drugs used to treat premature ejaculation in men of any age (Priligy, Extensin, Westoxetin, Sustinex and medications with other brand names). In the beginning, it was sold in some European and Asian countries, and now is commercialized around the world. The drug inhibits the serotonin transporter and decelerates ejaculation. It is commonly prescribed for cases when premature ejaculation is caused by psychological factors and some medical conditions.
How does it work?
Being a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI), initially, dapoxetine was used to treat symptoms of depression. But since it promotes the activity of serotonin in post synaptic cleft, it also prevents preliminary ejaculation. In comparison with other active components, this chemical is absorbed rapidly in body bringing instant effect. Therefore, it can be taken prior to sexual intercourse, not during several weeks: improvement of ejaculatory function will be noticeable even after one dose.
The effect lasts for 2-3 hours, and dapoxetine can increase the duration of sexual intercourse by 2-4 times. You can also buy dapoxetine for therapeutic purposes: after 6-12 months of intake men can greatly improve the quality of their sexual life.
Indications
If a man cannot perform sexual intercourse long enough to satisfy the partner and ejaculates within a few minutes after the start, it is called premature ejaculation. Doctors advise to order dapoxetine to treat preliminary ejaculation in male patients from 18 to 65 years old. It improves the quality of sexual life and prolongs duration of sexual contact.
How to take it?
A pill is taken 2-4 hours prior to sexual intercourse, and overall effect will last for up to 12 hours. A usual dose is 60 mg, one pill a day. Do not exceed the dose, if not prescribed otherwise by the doctor. The pills are taken regardless of meal time. Do not consume an excessive amount of alcohol when going through dapoxetine course. There were no reports about overdose.
To achieve long-lasting effects, it is recommended to take dapoxetine for several months. Consult with your doctor to define the duration of course. Note that cases of withdrawal syndrome are pretty frequent among men taking dapoxetine, and you should ask the doctor how to stop taking the drug safely.
Side effects
Dapoxetine does not cause serious side effects, but some people can experience slight dizziness and nausea, diarrhea and headache. If you experience some of these symptoms, stop taking the medication.
While some studies have shown that SSRIs can cause some psychiatric disorders (anxiety, mood changes, suicidal thoughts), there is no certain evidence that the chemical affects mood and psychology of men with premature ejaculation.
Contraindications
Dapoxetine is not recommended for men with serious hepatic impairment and those who take ritonavir, telithromycine or their analogues. The medication should not be used in patients with:
- heart failure;
- ischemic heart disease;
Patients receiving different antidepressants should also take dapoxetine carefully: it is better to cut down on these drugs and wait for 2 weeks. If you cease taking dapoxetine, wait for a week before using other medications.
Interaction with medications
The drug can be used with some other medications for premature ejaculation treatment and erection regulation, including Viagra, Levitra or Cialis.
